Ovid-Elsie Teacher Is Farm Bureau Ag Educator Of The Year

Posted: Updated:

(WLNS) - Tracey Hoffman has a reputation as teacher who challenges her students to ask questions, solve problems and create new ways to learn.

She is also now being honored by the Michigan Farm Bureau as the 2014 Agriscience Educator of the Year.

"Tracy tries very hard to teach and bring new experiences to her students and the Ovid-Elsie School District," said Sandy Maynard of the Shiawassee County Farm Bureau. "She is regarded as the expert in agriscience and guides students to prepare for agricultural career development."

Because of Hoffman's diligence all eighth-grade students in the Ovid-Elsie system take a seven-week agricultural literacy class.  Those studies introduce students to farming, stewardship of the land and global markets.

Hoffman also chairs the Ovid-Elsie science department. In her position as the president of the Michigan Association of Agriscience Educators, she also helps mentor new teachers.

Hoffman will formally be presented her award at the Farm Bureau's annual meeting in December.
