Inside The Lacey Holsworth Life Celebration

Posted: Updated:

EAST LANSING, MI (WLNS) - Friends and family celebrated the life of Lacey Holsworth Thursday night at the Breslin Center.

Thousands came out to East Lansing to honor the memory of the 8-year-old.

Her enthusiasm for MSU basketball and her courageous spirit captivated people nationwide.

She may have lost her battle with cancer but Lacey's spirit lives on in all of those whom she inspired.

It's really no wonder why thousands felt compelled to honor the life of 8-year-old Lacey Holsworth, a testament to the inspiration she was in all of their lives.

The ceremony, not a goodbye but a celebration of her life, began with touching remarks from her mother.

"I hope you smile Lay-Lay -- that you will feel these words from where you are."

Lacey's passing was a loss felt by many more than just her family, whether it was students or basketball players after a tough game.

MSU point guard Travis Trice spoke for the team, "The first person I saw coming out of that locker room was Lacey. She was smiling. Just looking at her I lost all that sad and emotion."

Adreian Payne, the player Lacey adored honored her tonight with a dunk, a play that put a smile on her young face so many times before.

"I can't wait to see you again. Save a dance for me. Love Mommy."

And Lacey's parents hope that we can all learn from Lacey, that we never give up during tough times, we never stop fighting and we never forget to love like Lacey.
