Pot Supporters Oppose Proposed Saliva Testing

Posted: Updated:

(WLNS) - Medical marijuana supporters oppose a set of bills that would let the state use saliva samples as part of the way it tests people for intoxication.

According to our media partners at MLive the bills aim to address driving under the influence of drugs like marijuana and would allow a police officer to swab a person's mouth to test for drugs during traffic stops.

Lawmakers heard from both sides of the issue Thursday.

Pro-marijuana advocates question the accuracy of the saliva tests while a representative for the Michigan State Police said the tests would not be used until they are scientifically proven.
