Document Destruction Day Promotes Recycling

Posted: Updated:

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) -- To celebrate the end of tax season, Saturday Friedman Industries Inc. hosted its seventh annual Document Destruction Day.

From 8 a.m. to p.m., hundreds of cars lined up to drop off documents for workers to shred for free. The company holds the event the Saturday after tax day so people and businesses can safely and securely dispose of confidential paperwork.

Saturday alone 37,000 pounds of paper were recycled, which saved 315 trees.

"We shred year-around for a fee, and it's still really affordable, but this is the one time of the year that we do it for free. Really it's a celebration tax season is over and it also coincides with spring cleaning and we like to tie it in with earth day as well because it's leading into earth week," said Friedland Industries Inc. Manager Michael Bass.

On top of paper, Friedland Industries Inc. recycles metal, plastic and electrical equipment.
