Homeless Gather For Advent House Easter

Posted: Updated:

(WLNS) - While many families enjoyed this Easter holiday at home others did so at the Advent House.

Those struggling to make ends meet joined together for an Easter meal many were thankful to celebrate with good food and good company.

The sound of music draws them in, and the food keeps them coming back.

Casey Braley says, "Everyone just kind of comes together as one, and you don't see that very often, especially in lansing."

Casey Braley and her family have been coming to the Advent House for years.  For them it's a tradition.

She adds, "Everybody's equal. And i think that's what everybody likes about it. They can come here and not be treated differently, no matter what the problem is no matter what the matter is."

So families like Braley's poured in on this Easter Sunday to enjoy a meal, thankful that they aren't forgetten.

many families depend on the advent house for a meal on sundays...especially on a holiday like today.

Joan Jackson Johnson of Advent House said, "We need to make sure that all people are taken care of. And that we are listening out for the seniors and families who are struggling. Together we can make the world a better place."

Client Paul Ballew adds, "A lot of people don't have anywhere to go eat. Family is not with them, so this becomes our family."

A family that among tough circumstances still has a smile on their face.

Sandra True agrees, "We are homeless and we're all in so many different circumstances and its encouraging to see people smile, break bread with each other."

The less fortunate aren't forgotten and some hope that will change their perspective.

Joan Jackson Johnson adds, "I think that it restores people faith, they believe that things are going to change and we do as well."
