Some Work To Keep 'Princess Lacey' Tributes

Posted: Updated:
EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) - Some Michigan State University students are working to ensure that tributes to an 8-year-old girl who died after a battle with cancer remain a little longer on a rock that serves as a campus message board.

Last week some students spread out on blankets on grass next to The Rock, trying to keep others from painting.

Lacey Holsworth, whose battle with nerve-cell cancer inspired the Michigan State basketball program and strangers who followed her story, died April 8 at her home in nearby St. Johns. Michigan State star Adreian Payne befriended Lacey during one of her hospital stays.

She was affectionately known as "Princess Lacey." During a vigil the night after she died, some painted The Rock and others wrote messages on it.
