Crews Remove, Destroy Unexploded Military Shell

Posted: Updated:
BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (AP) - Bomb disposal crews responded to a Battle Creek home after a scrap business operator obtained an unexploded military shell.

Police responded Monday night to the home of Beau Angell. He says he obtained the 22-inch shell Saturday when a homeowner called him to dispose of some scrap from a pole barn.

Angell says he thought about keeping the shell, but first did online research to try to figure out what it was and whether it was live. On Sunday, he says he took the shell when the family visited relatives for Easter. Sunday night, after returning home, he called police.

An Army military ordnance disposal unit arrived Monday and took the shell to the nearby Fort Custer Training Center, where it was destroyed.
