Crime Victim Vigil Set For Tonight In Capitol

Posted: Updated:
(WLNS) - Attorney General Bill Schuette will participate in tonight's 26th annual Michigan Crime Victims Vigil in the rotunda of the State Capitol.

The vigil is a time of remembrance for victims' families and friends.  It also honors people who have served victims beyond their ordinary duties.

The event is sponsored by the Michigan Crime Victim Foundation.  It begins at 6:00 p.m. and is open to the public.

The keynote speaker for the vigil this year is Tyler MacEachran, Executive Director for the Michigan chapter of Mothers Against Drunk Driving.

The vigil also features an award ceremony honoring several people for their outstanding service on behalf of crime victims and a candlelight service to remember lost loved ones.

In 1985, Michigan was one of the first states to implement crime victim rights and was the first state to adopt these rights in our state constitution in 1988.
