(WLNS) - Watching her slowly slip away, Nancy G. Brinker promised her sister she'd do everything in her power to end breast cancer. A disease that would ultimately kill Susan G. Komen. But through her death a foundation was born in her name, which to date, has invested more than $1 billion to help women worldwide.

There are now more than 120 local Komen affiliates, including here in mid-Michigan, which has been working for 13 years now, to better the lives of women and men and families in seven counties.

One of the biggest ways is through the annual Race for the Cure. On Sunday, April 27 for the 12th year in a row, expect a sea of pink to flood the streets of downtown Lansing.
