TMSG: Jackson Donations

Posted: Updated:
(WLNS) - You've probably heard it's better to give than receive, right?

A group of volunteers in Jackson gets a lot of pleasure in making sure people have "the basics" in life.

Fill the bags to meet the need. It's what Dennis Parshall of the Local 101 Utility Workers in Jackson set up for his consumer's crew at Christian Charities Linen Closet Downtown.

Dennis Parshall says, "What a real need was, something we could give to every family from the local and they said they needed all purpose cleaner."

So Dennis took up a collection from his team and wheeled in 145 bottles, along with dozens of boxes of everyday household items, sheets and bedcovers.

Dennis adds, "It just goes right back to the community we come from, so it's an excellent outlet for us."

"Help hope dignity, folks out there really do want to help," volunteer coordinator Julie Brawner says it's truly the little things that make the biggest difference for the people the Linen Closet serves.

Julie adds, "Shampoo, deodorant, soap, people can walk out of their house clean and send their kids to school clean."

Sue Lewis, Executive Director Catholic Charities Jackson says, "You and I maybe take it for granted but they're so important to others and we really try to fill that a gap."

A gap Lewis says is closer to closing now thanks to the generous Consumers crew.

Lewis says, "We're very proud here in Jackson. We've got a very collaborative community."
