Great Lakes Ice Still Highest For This Date; Ice In June?

(WLNS) - Lake Superior is still over 60 percent covered in ice and that is almost twice as much recorded for this date going back to 1973.If the current weather holds Superior could have ice as last as June.
According to our media partners at MLive, Lake Michigan still has a 15 percent ice cover.  That's three times higher than the previous ice amount for this date.
Lakes Huron, Erie and Ontario all have more ice cover than ever on this date.
The entire Great Lakes system still reports 35 percent ice cover.  The closest amount of ice at this date was 16 percent in 1979.
