Boy Who Had Heart Transplant Becomes Firefighter

Posted: Updated:
DETROIT (AP) - Detroit's newest firefighter is a 3-year-old boy.

Tyren Johnson arrived at his big day Tuesday in style: in a fire truck.

The heart transplant recipient says he loves fire trucks and wants to be a firefighter when he grows up.

So, thanks to Make-A-Wish Michigan and the Detroit fire department, he became one. For a day at least.

Tyren was given his own uniform with his name on the back and his own hat. Plus, he got to hang out with a Dalmatian.

Make-A-Wish Michigan grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions, and being a firefighter for a day was Tyren's wish.
