New State App Shares Child Welfare Information

Posted: Updated:
(WLNS) - For the first time state caseworkers, courts and private agencies who protect children can now exchange information in real time.
A new software app is launching today that will eventually link more than 6,000 caseworkers and state court employees.
It's called the Michigan Statewide Automated Child Welfare Information System.
The software will monitor all active cases.  It will also track both the case progress and the services offered to the clients.  The goal is to provide better safety for children in the care system.
Secure access can be gained through a desk top, lap top or a variety of mobile devices.
In this first stage the project will be monitored by the Department of Human Services to make sure the software is performing as expected. Once DHS is satisfied a full roll-out will occur.
