MSU Recruit Star Gets Deal In Body-Slamming Incident

Posted: Updated:

DETROIT (AP) - A Detroit high school football star who wants to play at Michigan State has pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor in the body-slamming of a security guard.

Jayru Campbell's record could be erased if he gets counseling and attends anger management classes. He appeared Friday in Wayne County court and will return on May 30.

Judge Tim Kenny says the deal has nothing to do with Campbell's status as a top quarterback.

The 17-year-old is accused of slamming a guard to the floor at Cass Technical High School on Jan. 22 after refusing to pull a hood off his head. It was recorded on video. Campbell was charged with a felony and a misdemeanor.

Campbell, a junior, led Cass Tech to state championships in 2011 and 2012.
