Proposed Jackson City Budget Would Slash Firefighter & Other Jobs

Posted: Updated:
(WLNS) - The city of Jackson's proposed budget includes a hike in taxes and deep cuts to public safety.
According to our media partners at MLive, the plan would eliminate 10 firefighters and one city police officer.
Four other positions in the two departments would also be cut.
The city's K-9 unit could also be eliminated.
Deputy Fire Chief David Wooden said the cuts would catastrophically reduce the department's numbers.
The city budget also calls for raising the property taxes 0.9 mills.
A public hearing on the proposed budget will be held on Tuesday, May 13 at the City Council meeting at City Hall.
