Firefighters Get Live House Fire Training

Posted: Updated:
Dimondale, Mich - (WLNS) - Young firefighters put their skills to the test--in a live fire simulation.

The Windsor Charter Township emergency services department hosted the training session--in hopes of building more confidence and experience for their men and women who protect our community.

The training was complete with entanglement simulation and Denver drills which is a way to practice rescuing firefighters out of a burning home.

“You don't want to send them out on their fire and never ever see it before,“ said William Fabijancic III, Firefighter for the Windsor Township Emergency Services Department. “You want to get inside and have them practice, see the fire for real and be able to put it out.”
And according to officials at the department...fires in their area are rare, so real experience is hard to come by.

“They don't get a chance to see a lot of fires very often so whenever we get a chance, we can do this. It allows them to get some practice in a safe controlled atmosphere,” said William Fabijancic Jr., Assistant Chief with the Windsor Township Emergency Services Department.

The simulated fire training gives young firefighters a chance to get some experience so when they go out and battle a real fire they have the confidence to do so.

“It gives us the opportunity to get some experience for the people before they are learning on the job. it gives them a chance to be a little bit safer. We can save community property better that way and just safer all around for everyone,” said Fabijancic Jr.

And for many firefighters here...the extra practice they're receiving is all in a day's work.

“I’m not a hero, I don't think anything like that,” said Fabijancic III. “I just want to go in and do my part to help the community.”
