Lansing Police Investigate Suspicious Death

Posted: Updated:

(WLNS) - Police are investigating a suspicious death after a man's body was found in an abandoned area in Lansing.

Police tell 6 News that 42 year old Terry Alber was discovered around 11 o'clock Sunday morning  near the 400 block of North Larch street.

Police say the body was in between buildings and near-by railroad tracks.

Officials aren't saying much but do say an investigative unit was brought in to examine the scene.

The Volunteers of America shelter provides help to many homeless people in the area where the body was found.

Patrick Petterson, the executive vice president of the Michigan VOA, says if the man found was homeless he's probably passed through the shelter doors.

"A homeless man has a 500 percent the risk of death as you or I and it's even worst for woman.  So the streets I would say are dangerous from all causes accidental, violence, health related and natural cases because people don't have the common necessities that us more blessed have."

Police are expected to release more details today.
