Circus Accident Leaves Nine Hurt

Posted: Updated:
(WJAR) - OSHA, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, is helping Providence public safety commissioners investigate why a platform collapsed causing serious injuries to a number of circus performers.

This report from our sister station WJAR in Providence, Rhode Island says the circus is considering flying the families of those injured in Sunday’s circus accident in from the Ukraine, Brazil and Bulgaria.

The performers dropped 25 to 40 foot drop.

It is still unknown why that platform collapsed."Within the next 24 hours, i believe that with the help of OSHA, the state and local officials will have a good idea of what failed," said Larry Lepore of the Dunkin’ Donuts Center.

The 10:30 Monday performance has been canceled but there is still no word on the 3 p.m. show.

The next set of performances on the circus tour is scheduled for Hartford and a circus spokesman told the Today Show that those performances would be held as scheduled.
