Murderer Who Escaped Postpones Court Hearing

Posted: Updated:
IONIA, Mich. (AP) - Court hearings for a convicted murderer who broke out of a Michigan prison in February have been postponed until June.

Michael Elliot waved his right to a hearing within 14 days of his April 23 arraignment. A Monday court conference was rescheduled for June 2 and a Wednesday probable cause hearing rescheduled for June 4.

Elliot faces escape, carjacking and kidnapping charges. Defense attorney Randy Norton declined to comment.

Elliot was captured Feb. 3 in LaPorte County, Indiana, one day after escaping from Ionia Correctional Facility in western Michigan. Authorities say he carjacked a woman in Ionia who escaped in Indiana.

He's serving life in prison for first-degree murder in the 1993 shooting of four people. A co-defendant admits pulling the trigger, and Elliot says he's innocent.
