Former Detroit Employee Faces Child Porn Charges

Posted: Updated:
STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. (AP) - Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette has charged a former Detroit law enforcement employee with 20 felony charges of child pornography.

Walter Stampor was charged Monday with 10 counts of possession and another 10 counts of using a computer to commit a crime. The 70-year-old retired last year as secretary of the Detroit law enforcement retirement system.

Stampor was arraigned in the Sterling Heights District Court and assigned a $50,000 cash bond. He's prohibited from using computers or devices with Internet access.

If he makes bond, he must wear a tracking device and won't be allowed unsupervised contact with minors or within 500 feet of a school.

Defense attorney Chris Rickard says it's too early to comment on the case and he and his colleagues will "continue to investigate the charges."
