Rogers Officially Endorses Bishop For 8th District Seat

Posted: Updated:

(WLNS) - Republican congressional candidate Mike Bishop has the endorsement of the current mid-Michigan Congressman Mike Rogers.

It came at a Lansing event that revealed Bishop has some disagreements with Governor Rick Snyder and as 6 News Capitol correspondent Tim Skubick reports Congressman Rogers also says he hasn't ruled out a run for President.

Former GOP state senator Mike Bishop wants the job that current Congressman Mike Rogers has and Mr. Rogers says that is ok by him.

In a wide ranging news conference we learned that Mr. Bishop does not agree with some of Governor Rick Snyder's major legislative programs.

The governor fought long and hard for an expansion of Medicaid and as a result about 270,000 needy families now have health care insurance.

Mr. Bishop, who wants to repeal Obamacare, does not support his governor on that.

"Do i agree with him 100% of the time, no. But that's the nature of the beast," Bishop said.

On the Governor's pension tax, first Mr. Bishop said,  "I wasn't here for the discussion. I dont know that much about that dialogue."

But when pressed he said he would have voted no on the governors senior tax.

"Ah, I would not have voted in support for a pension tax," said Bishop.

While Mr. Rogers prepares to leave Congress to anchor a national radio program, he was asked about running for president.

"Of what? Maldova?," laughed Rogers.

When pressed on his interest in being President of the United States, a more serious answer.

"I do think i leave the opportunity open to come back in some capacity in public service. You never say never. "

Reporter: Can you run for president as a radio jock?
Rogers: It worked for Ronald Reagan

Mr. Bishop is running against GOP State House member Tom McMillan for the mid-Michigan congressional seat. Three Ingham County Democrats are also in the race.
