Man Pleads Guilty, Mentally Ill In Father's Death

Posted: Updated:
INGHAM COUNTY, MI  (WLNS) - A 50-year-old man has pleaded guilty, but mentally ill to shooting his father.

Greg Basolo was living with his father Peter when police say Greg shot and killed him on October 25, 2013. Peter Basolo was 79-years-old and the two lived together on Fox Hollow Drive in the East Meadows Condominiums.

Basolo admitted to killing the former Michigan State Police captain at previous hearings.

An agreement with prosecutors requires Basolo to spend at least 25 years in prison but he can receive mental health treatment.

Basolo says he was angry because his father re-established contact with relatives who sexually assaulted the son in the past.
Defense attorney Patrick Crowley says the plea was Basolo's choice.

Back in February Greg Basolo tried to plead guilty to the killing, but the judge did not grant the plea. Basolo was ordered to undergo additional evalutation.
