Beware: Consumer's Energy Warning Of Prepaid Credit Card Scam

Posted: Updated:
JACKSON, MI (WLNS) - Consumers Energy is warning customers of a telephone scam that asks customers to pay their utility bill with a pre-paid credit card.

Callers say they work for Consumers Energy and direct customers to purchase a pre-paid credit card in order to pay their bill. The caller tells the customer they need to pay their bill within an hour. A toll-free number is provided, asking customers to call back and pay their bill once they've purchased the pre-paid credit card.

Consumers Energy says they never demand payments over the phone only using a specific card. If you believe you have been the victim of a scam or have concerns, call Consumers Energy at (800) 477-5050.
