Texas Woman Accused Of Big Tax Scam In Michigan

Posted: Updated:
LANSING, Mich. (AP) - A woman is accused of fooling the government into paying more than $600,000 based on hundreds of fraudulent tax returns from the Lansing area.

Takabvako Chiwocha-Crowell now lives in the Dallas area. She was charged with conspiracy Thursday in Grand Rapids federal court.

Authorities say she went to soup kitchens and homeless shelters to get information from people to file bogus returns in 2011.

The government alleges she got help from family members and listed a Lansing address as the address for the tax returns.

Chiwocha-Crowell could not be reached for comment in Texas. No phone number is listed.
