EAST LANSING, MI (WLNS) - Just 15 minutes after a shooting at the Frandor Rite Aid, another shooting took place. This one was in the 1800 block of Coolidge Road. That’s right around the corner from the pharmacy in East Lansing.
There was a man shot in a house on Coolidge. He died a short time later.
We now know both of these shootings are not coincidental. Lansing police believe the same man was responsible for both the shootings at Rite Aid and on Coolidge Rd.
A cooperative effort took one man into custody earlier Monday.
"Less than ten minutes we had these resources together, working on both of these shootings.”
It was a team effort of federal and state agencies, including the Ingham County Sheriff's Department and East Lansing’s strategic response team. They blocked off Coolidge Road and area schools were on lockdown.
"That was a preventative measure, obviously the lockdowns are for the safety of those at the school.”
Before units carefully made their move, "they did break glass in front of the house to deploy a throw phone to him. They made verbal contact with him through a window and within a short period of time he gave up and came out,” said Captain Jeff Murphy, East Lansing Police.
A cooperative effort that the Lansing Police Chief says shows this can happen at any time, anywhere and to be prepared.
"We want the public to know that they are safe, the suspect is in custody and we are going to work through the night to build the case accordingly with the evidence that is out there,” said Chief Mike Yankowski, Lansing Police Department.
At this point it’s unclear how this started or the relationship between the shooter and two victims.
