3 Students Hurt When Lightning Strikes School

Posted: Updated:
GREENVILLE, Mich. (AP) - Three eighth-graders at a western Michigan school were injured after the building was struck by lightning.

Nine students, in all, were shocked about 8 a.m. Monday at Grattan Academy in Greenville, northeast of Grand Rapids.

Two girls were standing by their lockers and suffered burns on their backs. A third girl was standing near a bathroom sink and later reported tingling and numbness in her arms.

The television station reports that the six other students did not seek medical help.

It was not immediately clear what part of the school was hit by lightning.
