One Dead After Shooting At Frandor Rite Aid

Posted: Updated:
LANSING, MI (WLNS) - Monday was a violent and deadly day on the streets of Lansing and East Lansing. A shooting at a Lansing pharmacy led to the city's second homicide of the year.

That's followed by another one just down the road in East Lansing and police say the two cases are related.

The shootings prompted lockdowns at three schools in Lansing, the entire East Lansing School District and Michigan State University.

It was a nightmare situation for customers and workers at Rite Aid in the Frandor complex as police say a gunman came in shortly after 11 a.m. and shot and killed a 35-year-old pharmacy employee.

Robert Merritt with the Lansing police says after shots were fired the Lansing Police Department responded to the scene within minutes in pursuit of the shooter, but they were too late.

"Police say the suspect got away on foot and headed east. They tried to track him down with the canine team, but they say the weather didn't allow them to do that."

As police began to investigate the Lansing homicide more shots were fired in neighboring East Lansing, forcing schools and businesses in the area to go on lockdown for more than three hours.

Police continue to investigate both shootings and piece together not only what happened, but why.

Police haven't released the name yet of the Rite Aid employee who was shot and killed.
