Lansing Police Hold Press Conference After Double Shooting In Lansing/East Lansing

Posted: Updated:
LANSING, MI (WLNS) - It all started Monday morning around 11. Police say a man walked into the Rite Aid store in the Frandor shopping center, shot and killed an employee and then took off running.

Police eventually found the suspect hiding-out in a home about a mile away in East Lansing.

That's where officials say they found a second shooting victim. When police made contact with the man he surrendered.

On Tuesday police released new details about the shooter’s motive and who the victims were, during a news conference.

Those shot and killed were 35-year old Rite Aid Pharmacist Michael Addo of Mason and 27-year old Jordan Rogers of East Lansing.

Officials say they don't know whether the shooter had any sort of relationship with either of the men, but they did clear up speculation about the shooter's motive.

"What we do know is that it was not a robbery attempt for guns, drugs, or money. And through the course of the investigation we're going to look at all angles. How did we get to the point where this incident escalated to gun violence, this confrontation on two separate venues that led to gun violence,” said Chief Mike Yankowski, Lansing Police.

Police have more investigating left to do. They say they won't release the name of the shooter until he is arraigned.
