Police Continue To Investigate After Rite Aid Pharmacist Killed

Posted: Updated:
LANSING, MI (WLNS) - A quiet morning turned chaotic as one deadly shooting then became two and more than 10 police agencies tracked down a killer through two cities.

When all was said and done, two families were left grieving the loss of loved ones.

"Anytime a life is taken unexpectedly, it's a tragedy."

Police identified 35-year-old Rite Aid Pharmacist Michael Addo of Mason and 27-year-old Jordan Rogers of East Lansing, the victims of the shootings.

Chief Mike Yankowski didn't confirm why the shooter came into this Rite Aid with a gun, but did rule out what many considered a strong possibility.

"This was not a robbery attempt for guns or drugs; it was not a robbery attempt for money,” said Chief Mike Yankowski, Lansing Police.

Whatever drove the suspect, whose name has not been released, to shoot and kill two people wavered once he was confronted by police.

"He immediately surrendered and was taken into custody. There was no confrontation,” said Chief Juli Liebler, East Lansing Police.

Police say they can't comment on the relationship between the shooter and the victims.

"We're trying to do a sequence of events that led up to this event. Doing that is going to take some thorough investigation, making sure that we've covered all of the bases."

It's been more than 24 hours since the arrest. Police continue to put the pieces of this horrific event together.

Police say they won't release the name of the suspect until he's arraigned. That could happen as early as tomorrow.
