Gun Control March On Capitol Today

Posted: Updated:

(WLNS) - We're less than than 2 weeks into the month of May and there's already been 3 homicides in Lansing.

Today the Michigan chapter of "Moms Demanding Action for Gun Sense" plan to raise awareness for gun violence by marching to the Capitol.

With the recent passing of Mother's Day moms across the state of Michigan are asking for an even greater gift: to keep their children safe.

And today they're taking state representatives head-on by asking them to take action and prevent felons, domestic abusers and the mentally ill from buying guns.

The Michigan chapter of "Moms Demanding Action for Gun Sense in America" plan to march from the Michigan House of rRpresenatives offiice building

to the state Capitol building today.

Why? Because they want state officials to take action and they are demanding that the House vote on legislation requiring background checks on all firearm purchases.

They will also present House Speaker Jase Bolger with a petition signed by more than 1000 Michigan citizens who want to extend the process currently in place for hand guns to also include long guns*.

You do not have to be apart of this group to march.

All you have to do is meet at the Anderson Building today at 11:30 to help initiate the gun sense voter campaign.
