Police And Fire Field Day Helps Children Learn Safety

Posted: Updated:
LANSING, MI (WLNS) – More than 1,300 children gathered at Hawk Island Park for the annual Police and Fire Field Day and Safety Patrol Picnic.

It's the community's way of thanking the safeties for their hard work in watching over their peers.

Law enforcement agencies brought in their K-9 and mounted units as well as emergency vehicles for the kids to see and enjoy.

“We want to feel comfortable working with children, whether it is law enforcement's or fire departments and all of these community servants that really do an outstanding job,” said Kevin Cole, Lansing Area Safety Council.

The safeties were also treated to all the hot dogs, snacks, pop and popcorn they could eat.
