Rite Aid Shooting Suspect Arraigned

Posted: Updated:

(WLNS) - His name is Ricard Taylor, he's 34-years-old, lives in East Lansing and police say he pulled the trigger in a pair of shootings that left two men dead.

Wednesday Taylor appeared before a judge through a video conference.

The thirty-four year old was handed down some serious charges, seven in total including 2 counts of open murder, three counts carrying concealed weapons charges and 2 counts of felony firearms.

But despite the number and severity Taylor appears calm as the charges are read.

Taylor's neighbors tell us he may be suffering from a mental illness, a thought that Ingham County Prosecutor Stuart Dunnings III says

played a role in the decision to charge him with open murder .

"We could proceed with felony murder--that the murder was committed in the course of commission of another felony--or that the murder was done with deliberation and premeditation. We have either of those two theories available to us," said Ingham County Prosecutor Stuart Dunnings III.

Now we tried to reach out to family members of Taylor's but were unsuccessful.

Those who live nearby say they haven't seen Taylor's family members in a few weeks.

Neighbors say they would frequently see Taylor and his brother at his home along Coolidge Road and hear music from that home.

ck in November Ricard was featured in a State News article that says he and his brother Taro started street performing in their hometown of Detroit,

leading them to stops in Seattle, Portland and Traverse City.

The two could also be seen at open mic night's at Dagwood's in East Lansing.

Now because of the gravity of the crime East Lansing Judge Andrea Larkin denied Taylor bond.

He'll remain in Ingham County jail until his next court appearance set for May 20th.
