Jackson's Plan to Stop Talent Drain

Posted: Updated:
(WLNS) - Keeping talent in Michigan has been a challenge for years.

Now there's a plan in Jackson to stop the talent drain.

It's called the Anchor Initiative and it has some big supporters, starting with Governor Rick Snyder.

"The conditions are right here--and you've got great leadership in terms of the community coming together. So, I would expect this to be successful," said Gov. Snyder during today's launch event.

The Anchor Intiative has the support of area businesses, including Consumers Energy, MIS and Allegiance Health.

Those businesses see the advantages of keeping talent in place and making the climate attractive for recruiting.

"When senior year of high school came to a close--I was ready not only to get out of Jackson--but Michigan, " said Jackson native Leslie Youngdahl.

She moved away after graduating from high school but is back in her hometown to work and invest.

Gov. Snyder says this program is reversing the talent flight and other Michigan cities can take their cue from Jackson.

6 News reporter Joe Khalil will have more on the Anchor Initiative tonight on 6 News at 5.
