Annual Flower Planting At Capitol Today

Posted: Updated:

(WLNS) - It's not uncommon to see dozens of people surrounding the Capitol building in downtown Lansing.

But today it's not in protest, it's for planting.

For decades volunteers have visited the Capitol to help beautify it and they'll do so again today by planting more than 17,000 plants and flowers.

They'll surround the Capitol with an intricate design by using more than 3,000 burgundy petunias, more than 4,000 pink begonias, more than 3,000 yellow marigolds and hundreds of red salvias.

The volunteers from the Michigan State Capitol Commission facilities and tour guide staff will be planting this morning from 8:00 am to 11:00 am.
