Teens Face Tight Job Market This Summer

Posted: Updated:
(WLNS) - Michigan teens are facing an unemployment rate of 26.5 percent this summer.  That projected number is an improvement from last summer's rate of 27.1 percent.

According to our media partners at MLive, there will be about 178,400 Michigan teens between the ages of 16-19 who will find jobs this summer.

It's challenging to find summer work since the economic downturn.  Not only are teens competing for a limited number of seasonal jobs, they're also competing with out-of-work adults.

The teen unemployment rate is dropping from a peak of 35 percent in 2010 but still remain above pre-recessionary levels.
