E. Coli Cases Reported Due To Massive Beef Recall

Posted: Updated:
(WLNS) - So far 11 cases of E. coli have been confirmed across four states, including here in Michigan and all of them have a common link, ground beef.

Beef that officials say came from the Wolverine Packing Company in Detroit.

Now nearly 2 million pounds of the ground beef is being recalled.

Their products were sold to restaurant distributors throughout the state of Michigan as well as Ohio, Massachusetts and Missouri.

Health officials say the beef was produced between March 31 and April 18 and the first E. coli bacterial infection was identified shortly after.

Five of the 11 cases are in Michigan and doctors warn this strain of E.coli can have some especially concerning side effects.

"This particular strain tends to get into the blood stream and can affect other organs: the kidneys, immune system,” said Dr. Steve McGraw, Provide Hospital.
