Jackson Schools Review Gun Policy

Posted: Updated:

(WLNS) - Jackson County schools are working on a set of guidelines covering people who openly carry guns on school property.

Under state law you can't carry a gun into places like banks, bars and churches.

But schools are not included on that list.

A group of school superintendents is drafting protocols for all schools in the county to use.

According to our media partners at the Jackson Citizen Patriot if staff or students see someone open carrying a gun on a school campus the school would go into a lockdown.

Police would be called and then officials would decide if that person has a valid permit.
