US Official To Discuss LED Streetlights In Detroit

Posted: Updated:

DETROIT (AP) - U.S. Energy Secretary plans to visit Detroit to mark the city's progress installing energy-efficient LED streetlights.

Secretary Ernest Moniz plans to speak this afternoon at the Detroit Area Pre-College Engineering Program. He's expected to discuss the installation project that includes the participation of the Energy Department, the city, its Public Lighting Authority and others.

The White House recently announced that Detroit and four other cities would receive technical assistance to help improve municipal lighting and energy efficiency.

Detroit is in the process of upgrading thousands of streetlights. The first of about 50,000 new light-emitting diode streetlights were installed in February in an eastside neighborhood.
