Arbor Village Mobile Home Concerns

Posted: Updated:

(WLNS) - People living in a Spring Arbor mobile home park say they've been getting water bills triple the amount they usually pay.

They say management recently switched over to metered billing for their well water, but according to their lease, water is supposed to be included.

Emerald Morrow has more from residents who say they believe they're being cheated.

Resident: "$74.18."

Reporter: "For one month?"

Resident: "For one month."

Resident: "Our first month bill was like a hundred and sixty-something dollars."

And these people say it's a bill they should have never received.

Now those living in the Arbor Village mobile home park say they feel like they're being ripped off.

Resident: "They said we used 10,700 gallons."

Reporter: "And that's not accurate?"

Resident: "Oh, wow. That's way off."

Residents say when new management took over late last year the park started using meters for the well water in the park even though water is supposed to be included in rent.

"i paid a years lot rent up front when we first moved in with the anticipation that my water and sewage, everything was going to be all inclusive," said Tammy Hughes, Arbor Village mobile home park resident.

"Universal Utilities" handles billing for the park.

A quick search shows the company only has a c-plus rating from the Better Business Bureau.

The majority of their recent complaints have involved billing.

Reporter: "Do you think they're taking advantage of you?"

Resident: "Oh, certainly."

Park officials say they charge the exact same rate as Spring Arbor Township and even dropped the rent when they changed the billing.

But residents say it's not enough.

Resident: "It doesn't even come close to what the water usage is."

nNt only is the water too expensive, but those who live here say it's something they wouldn't even drink.

Resident: "It's just nasty. It's nasty."

Resident: "It's got like a film to it. You can even see--you pour it in a cup and it's got like dirt at the bottom...the new management that took over just let everything go to hell."
