MDOT Lifting Traffic Restrictions For Weekend

Posted: Updated:
(WLNS) - This Memorial Day weekend, the Michigan Department of Transportation is removing lane restrictions on nearly three-quarters of its road projects to ease traffic delays for holiday travelers.

AAA Michigan estimates 1.1 million motorists will be using Michigan roads and bridges during the annual kick-off to summer.

Beginning at 3 p.m. Friday and continuing until 6 a.m. Tuesday, 80 of 108 projects statewide will have lane restrictions removed.

While construction zones may be closed for the weekend, motorists are advised that equipment and temporary traffic configurations, like minor shifts, may remain in place, requiring motorists to adjust their speed and pay attention.

“While the Memorial Day weekend is an exciting time to launch the summer travel season, safety is always the top priority,” said State Transportation Director Kirk T. Steudle. “Drivers should buckle up, eliminate all distractions and use caution, especially when traveling through work zones.”
