Enjoying Memorial Day Weekend Camping

Posted: Updated:

(WLNS) - The warm and sunny weather this weekend is a welcome sight for thousands of people at campgrounds across the state.

As Christa Lamendola found out today people are more than happy to be out and about spending time out-doors.

Sunshine, and clear skies have been a breath of fresh air for those itching to get outside this holiday weekend.

And with temps in the 80's--- Cottonwood Campground in Lansing is overflowing with people soaking up the sun.

"We get packed around this time every year. We don't have anything available to camp in unless you're going to be tenting but other than that the whole campground is packed.," said Elisa Granito of the Cottonwood Campground.

That's 135 lots just this weekend.

And they're not just locals- Granito says they have people come in from all over the country.

"People come from canada. People come from Florida- believe it or not they come up here to be cooler. People from the south- Iowa. Georgia. They come from everywhere."

Kyle Camp's family lives all across the state-- they met at the campground for the weekend--

Their draw to camping is the activities.

"Bike riding and swimming and kick-balling and catching catfish and playing frisbee," explained Camp.

Others couldn't wait to explore nature now that spring has sprung.

"We were watching a momma bird feeding her babies all day long but theres just non of the hustle and bustle. Like we can just relax.," said camper Rachael Connelly.

And after such a cold winter- this water is actually pretty warm.

In fact it may just be the perfect temperature to get out in a boat. In lansing, Christa Lamendola, 6 News
