TMSG: Student Achieves Perfect Attendance

Posted: Updated:

(WLNS) - It's that time of the year; Proud parents get to watch their high school seniors don their cap and gown & graduate.

But for one Lansing student and athlete graduating is only part of an amazing accomplishment few others have ever achieved.

Evan Pinsonnault introduces us to this inspiring 17-year-old in this "Tell Me Something Good" report.

With his bag packed Marco Solis headed to his final class of the year, excited for what comes next after graduation.

Marco Solis - Eastern High School senior: "I'm going to head to LCC and then transfer to a big university."

But first, a big accomplishment for the Eastern High School senior, one 2,249 Lansing schools days in the making.

That's right. Marco's never missed one day of school from kindergarten all the way through 12th grade.

Marco - "I finally did it. Just to get an education. It helps you better in life and in society."

"This is unprecedented." Principal Donna Pohl says Marco not only gets an "a" for attendance, but for his attitude as well.

"Marco is just so humble. He is such a hard-worker. A role model for students and staff alike. We can't be more proud of him"

Something he's proud of: He can still remember everyone one of his teachers

"Ms. Sanders, Ms. Spedoski, Miss Rupert..." and the list goes on, just like his accomplishments.

To go along with a 3.4 GPA Marco's also lettering in varsity baseball. His position:shortstop. Sound familiar?

"Cal Ripken has broken the record.. 2,131 consecutive games,"  Marco remembers.

Evan: "Your record rivals that of Cal Ripken."

Marco: "Sounds good."

Sounds like a homerun. An inspiring achievement; one of it's kind in Lansing School District history.

"Remembering everything and how I got here," Marco adds.

That special perfect attendance award for Marco, it'll be right by the sports trophy case.

A fitting place for it since he'll have a new nickname right out of the sports world: Lansing's iron man of education.

"He is the iron man," says Marco. "Come, stay healthy and don't make any excuses."

Glad to tell you something good from eastern high school... I'm Evan Pinsonnault
