Shiawassee River Gets Partial OK for E. coli Levels

Posted: Updated:
(WLNS) - Recent floods caused raw sewage to be released into the Shiawassee River and now the water has been given a partial clearance for E. coli bacteria.

It's a story we first told you about on 6 News.

The Shiawassee County Health Department took water samples from McCurdy Park in Corunna, Oliver Street Bridge in Owosso and Juddville Road Bridge in Rush Township.

The locations tested are in compliance with State guidelines for bacterial concentrations and body contact.  Samples found the E. coli levels did not exceed two-thirds of the allowable levels for contamination.

Those tests found that the Shiawassee River is safe for Partial Body Contact, like kayaking, but not Full Body Contact, like swimming.
