Police Celebrating Michigan State Police Academy Graduates

Posted: Updated:
LANSING, MI (WLNS) - It was a day filled with smiles at the Lansing center and pride as men and women in blue officially graduated from the Michigan State Police Academy.

6 News Savana Ciavatta shares more on this happy day.

After five long months of training, it finally comes down to this.

“I feel elated; it's a very exciting feeling. Been doing a lot of work to get here and it’s fantastic to just have reached this goal,” said Trooper Cody Zonts, Michigan State Police Graduate, Lansing Post.

Walking across the stage at the Lansing Center, 82 men and women became Michigan State Police troopers Friday.

“I'm very happy for myself, my family and all the support we've had throughout the process,” said Trooper Brett Brice, Michigan State Police Graduate, Jackson Post.

The journey wasn't easy. Recruits went through rigorous training to get to this point.

“The academy is tough, our day starts at five and we don't get finished until 10 at night so it’s strenuous,” said Brice.

“It's a long process going through the recruitment process, they go through interview panels and then the training itself is very extensive so they worked extremely hard,” said First Lieutenant Joseph Thomas, Michigan State Police.

Each of the new troopers has been assigned a post across the state to call their home and to protect the community.

“What we're here to do is to keep people safe and make sure that we're doing something to better the lives of those around us and the state of Michigan,” said Trooper Cody Zonts.

Troopers say they can't wait to get out there and put their skills to use.

“Just getting out on the road and providing a good service to the citizens of Michigan and learn how to be a trooper now. I'm a trooper now, but now I get to learn how to be a trooper,” said Brett Brice, Michigan State Police Graduate.
