Posted: Updated:
The staff of WLNS-TV won eight awards at the annual Associated Press (Michigan) awards on Sunday, June 1.

6 News took home top prizes for:
  • Best Website (for the 4th time in the past 5 years)
  • Best Photographer (for Tim Schafer, who won the same award from the Michigan Association of Broadcasters earlier this year)
  • Best Feature story (for Evan Pinsonnault, who did a piece entitled "A Drive FORE Life" about Robert Monroy, a Iraq war veteran facing terminal cancer who wanted to learn to play golf)
  • Best Spot News Photography (for Joe Khalil and Aaron White, for the video they shot in the "Rose Bowl Riot" after MSU beat Ohio State in the Big Ten football championship)
6 News also took home awards for:
  • Continuing Coverage for Emerald Morrow's series on a member of the Michigan National Guard during the government shutdown
  • Photographer (for Chief Photographer Dave Parks)
  • Weather (for Chief Meteorologist David Young)
The Associated Press also gave 6 News an award for General Excellence.

The number of wins (the second largest excluding the stations in Detroit) are notable because WLNS went up against stations in larger markets including Grand Rapids/Kalamazoo and Flint/Saginaw.
