(WLNS) - On the "other side of the summer coin,” with warmer weather comes the threat of mosquitoes.
And this year's "crop" could be a doozy. State health officials are reminding us that those pesky, blood sucking bugs are already back in full force.
That's why you should start taking all the necessary precautions for the summer ahead.
Many experts originally thought the state's harsh winter and polar vortex would limit the amount of mosquitoes we would see this year.
"Our hard winter had no effect on mosquitoes, at least the cold temperature had no effect on over wavering populations and if anything, all the snow, which resulted in lots of water this spring, that filled all the low lying areas that produce mosquitos, it’s going to produce lots of mosquitoes,” said Howard Russell, Entomologist, MSU.
