ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) - The Congenital Heart Center at C.S. Mott Children's Hospital in Ann Arbor has become the Michigan affiliate for a project dedicated to training schools in how to use life-saving equipment in the event of an emergency cardiac event.
Project ADAM began in 1999 after a series of sudden deaths among high school athletes in Wisconsin.
Schools that participate in Project ADAM Michigan get a consultation with pediatric health care professionals from the University of Michigan's Mott Children's Hospital.
Mott also will help schools by providing information about getting cardiopulmonary resuscitation and automated external defibrillator training.
Gov. Rick Snyder signed a bill this year that requires Michigan schools to put in place a cardiac emergency response plan.
