POTTERVILLE, MI (WLNS) - The 15th annual Gizzard Festival is taking place in Potterville as we speak this weekend.
6 News Sharon Yoo went to Eaton County to find out what makes the festival so special.
They sizzle when they're out of the deep fryer, and the gizzards are the main stars of Potterville’s Annual Gizzard Fest, the one and only in the world.
“I'm proud to call it the only gizzard fest in the world. And I do own Joe's Gizzard City and being the only gizzard city in the world i do use that tagline,” said Joe Bristol, President, Potterville Chamber of Business.
The gizzards are hot, creamy and they melt in your mouth and kitchen manager Michelle says that's what makes a perfect gizzard.
“It would basically melt in your mouth. It's not like back when grandma used to do gizzards and it took you 10 minutes to chew one. They're very, very tender,” said Michelle Forist, kitchen manager, Joe’s Gizzard City.
And the perfect gizzards bring folks from all over the country.
“I've never heard of a Gizzard Fest except here and I’ve been reading about it for years and thought one year I want to do it. So here I am. Nobody in the family enjoys Gizzards except me. So I’m here to enjoy the gizzards,” said Robert Ethier, visiting from Georgia.
But the main goal of the festival is to bring the city of Potterville together.
“Gizzard fest really brings the businesses together by increased sales. Some have record-breaking sales this weekend and they plan for it all year.”
And the year of planning allows Potterville to get together for a weekend of food, music and other activities.
