Polls Show Snyder Still Under 50 Percent In Race For Governor

Posted: Updated:
LANSING, MI (WLNS) - The exclusive 6 News poll in the governor's race shows democratic challenger Mark Schauer is down 15 points in the mid-Michigan area while enjoying a 7 point lead in the outer-metro area around Detroit.

6 News Capitol Correspondent Tim Skubick looks at the findings.

In the head to head, the governor holds an 8 point lead over democratic challenger Mark Schuaer, but the governor is still below 50 percent.

6 News pollster Bernie Porn says anytime that happens that's a suggestion that they are vulnerable.

When you break it down according to regions, the governor has a whopping 37 point lead in west Michigan.

Closer to home Mr. Schauer is down 15 points in mid-Michigan but he has a slim lead in Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties and the area around those counties.

Mr. Schauer is pinning his hopes on the economy, trying to convince votes that they are not better off and the polling data suggests he is making some head way there.

Those who believe the economy is worse and on the wrong track are for Schauer, but those who believe the economy is improving and is on the right track are for Governor Snyder.

EPIC-MRA pollster Bernie Porn reports voters believe the national economy is turning around, but they don't believe that is happening in Michigan.

“Higher percentages say things are worse off for the economy, for themselves and their families. The highest percentages say there’s no change, but the percentage saying worse is much higher than better” said Bernie Porn, 6 News Pollster.

Reporter: “That’s the path for Mr. Schauer to win?”
Porn: “Yes, yes.”
