6 News Exclusive: Expensive House Deed Copy Not Necessary

Posted: Updated:
LANSING, MI (WLNS) - If you've received what looks like a bill asking for close to $90 dollars for a copy of the deed to your home you're not alone.

Many local homeowners paid the fee and now feel scammed. 6 News’ Joe Khalil went right to the source to find out who was behind the operation.

Watch the video above for a look at the phone call between 6 News’ Joe Khalil and the man behind the the letters.

In the letters it says the only way to get a copy of your deed is through their company or to drive to the county building in person.

That's not true. You can get a copy online or through the mail. They'd have you believe you have to pay them if you don't want to drive to get it.

It shouldn't cost you more than $2 to get a copy of your deed.
